In Madeira, pre-booking for classified PRs is required. In the official system, you choose a day and an entry time band; however, neither the weather nor your feet will be more precise. A flexible road is worth planning by recording some important tours and leaving room for manoeuvre around them. The reservation already paid is not to assume that it can simply be rewritten by the next day.
That's the last thing that matters. A bad-looking morning and an officially sealed route to the reservation system are two separate cases. If you find this out just in the quarters before you go, you'll get another little administrative assignment next to the backpack. He's doing his job in the fog. He didn't get a confirmation e-mail.
What are you actually booking?
The PR is the designation of classified pedestrian routes. According to Visit Madeira's briefing, these are included in the SIMPLIfica government portal: you choose the exact route code, the sun and a 30-minute entry time band. This is the time window of departure, not a 30-minute hiking time. The booking confirmation is also worth keeping offline. The Internet may be limited on the mountain and the ticket may be requested.
This is where it's worth slowing down. For a known location name, there may be several separate routes or different sections. The fact that "Pico do Areeiro" is not accurate enough to buy. For example, the official interface lists the short version PR1, which goes up to the Lookout of Pedra Rija and the longer version leading towards Pico Ruivo. I'm entitled to something else with a different amount. Unfortunately, the need for a good view cannot be dealt with with with a single ruble.
Look at the starting point and the end of the map. After a one-way walk, there's still the question of how to get back to the car. If you organize a transfer, the time is part of the day. Before booking, I'd like to put together this: where I start, where I finish, and what takes me from there. The name of the tour would only be added to the calendar after that.
Why do you need a time for nature?
IFCN, the forestry and nature conservation institute of the island, justifies the system by distributing visitors over time. According to official information, the specified capacity is divided into 30-minute access time windows. The regulation introducing tariffs also identifies the maintenance of natural areas and the management of the environmental burden of the visit.
This is an argument, but the width of the path does not increase the fact that we all want to come spontaneously. The uncomfortable part is when you have to adjust a whole week's journey to predetermined departure. A walk in the morning is still easy to plan. In several consecutive days, however, the pace of the previous phase is already affecting the next reservation.
That's exactly what comes back in passenger conversations. The multi-day crossing designers ask how to predict when they will reach the next PR section. It is different that the sunrise tries to reconcile departure or during booking with the new system. These are real questions. The personal experience of the speaker on how much he was checked, but there will be no official rule of grace.
Fanal: the photo doesn't have the route code on it
In my own Fanalic image, the forward branch of a twisted tree and the clearing in the mist hold the space together. The background disappears, the shape of the foreground is much more pronounced. I'm sure it would be nice to arrive when it's working for a light like this. The photo doesn't show when you should have checked in.
The photo's not a map. It doesn't prove which official route it was taken, and my previous visit does not state the terms of today's entry. The official description of the PR13 Vesera do Fanal indicates a 10,8 km route between ER209 Assobiadores and Fanal. It's not the same traveler's job as stopping by the woods and walking around the trees in short.
For this reason, you should first specify where and on what route you are going. Under the terms of the PR13, I would not say that every short walk in the area is subject to the same rule. I would not start with the reverse statement: even if someone walked in on an old report, the now selected PR section may still be subject to reservation. For a specific route, look for the specific condition.

A small fee adds up when paid repeatedly
The general individual fee verified on 18 October 2026 shall be EUR 4,50 for most of the routes concerned. The special fee for the long PR1 version is EUR 10,50; the short version leading up to the viewpoint of Pedra Rija is EUR 4,50. I wouldn't treat these as a single tourist leave in Madeira. The exact description of the service selected is important.
There are combined charges: EUR 9 per day, EUR 22.50 for three days, EUR 52,50 for seven days with the exception of PR1. According to SIMPLIfica's current prospectus, it is not necessary to search for a separate pass button: after choosing routes, the system will apply the appropriate, more favourable fee. In addition to a more favourable settlement, the reservation task will continue.
I wouldn't be looking for an entrance to all the possible programs here. For example, three separate bookings of EUR 4,50 each are EUR 27. If you bought the whole thing as a backup program, that's how much money you put into the idea of maybe going that way. This is a simple calculation, not the expected cost of your journey: combined fees and exceptions can alter the result.
I would therefore check the route code, the participants, the days and the final amount on the pre-paid basis. A poorly selected item there is even easier to detect than it has already been issued on a ticket.
Bad weather and official closure
SImplifica stated that the changes and reimbursement of completed reservations paid are not carried out by the general Contact Center. In the event of a cancellation that can be attributed to IFCN, for example in the event of an official closure of the route, IFCN should be contacted. Contact address of the prospectus: helpdesk.ifcn @ madeira.gov.pt. For other reasons, the fee paid may be lost.
So if you choose a different day based on the forecast, there will be no automatic transfer rights. The conditions of reservation and the official route status must be checked separately. And the amount paid is not a good argument for a start that you would otherwise reject. It would be an odd exchange to justify a bad field decision by saying that the reservation is already paid.
The open, restricted or closed state of the route may be checked before departure by the Visi Madeira and IFCN channels. That's not the payout. Tickets and walkways are two separate information; both need the current information.
There's also a very prosaic misunderstanding. The portal specifically warns that the message from an earlier attempt automatically cancelled due to a lack of payment does not necessarily mean cancelling your successfully issued ticket. If you have tickets and bills, compare reference numbers. The subject of e-mail alone is not enough to overturn the next day's plan.
How I would leave flexibility in a week’s itinerary
First, I'd like to pick out a few tours that actually make me go there. I'd build the days around these. I wouldn't immediately organize another difficult-to-move program in front of and behind a long mountain road with dubious weather. The location of the accommodation, the access to the accommodation and the way back are counted together: the free afternoon is not necessarily a reserve when it is necessary to reach the other end of the island.
But I wouldn't let the backup program go to the point where there's gonna be something. Make it a place, a time-consuming and a path plan. It could be an urban walk or a different kind of program. If I choose another pedestrian route, I will also check its access separately; the alternative is not an exemption category.
The reservation time is a compromise. You provide a place that's important to you earlier, but you take on more uncertainty about the weather. Later you can have more information on the circumstances, but less choice. I did not find any official data that could tell us exactly how many days before each route. A single January traveler's free time does not describe the entire season.
When crossing several days, I would like to write in section by section where I enter the PRs route and what internet access I can expect to make a reservation. I wouldn't build the whole plan that someone on the board was supposed to go in later. If daily distances and time bands do not fit together, change the itinerary. It's uncomfortable to discover at home. It's even more unpleasant on the mountain.
Finally, I would like to save three things on my phone: actual tickets, exact details of the routes and official control pages. The fog still won't have an appointment. At least I'll have another plan.
